Bulgaria was host of the Preliminary Round Group D matches for UEFA Futsal EURO 2018. The mini-tournament was held in Varna from 24th to 27th of January 2017. Bulgaria, England, Albania and Malta fought for the first position in the Group which would have guaranteed them a place in the Main round. All matches were played at „Palace of Culture and Sports“.
BFU President Borislav Mihaylov who is a member of UEFA Executive Committee and chairman of the UEFA Futsal and Beach Soccer Committee opened the tournament. The ceremony was held on 24th. The Minister of Youth and Sports Krasen Kralev and the Mayor of Varna Municipality Ivan Portnih were official guests at the ceremony.
The Mayor of Varna received a special award from Borislav Mihaylov on the occasion of the excellent cooperation and the development of football in the region. Varna is one of the cities chosen to host the UEFA 2019 European Women`s Under-17 Championship Finals in Bulgaria.
The spectators of the games at „Palace of Culture and Sports“ were in for a real treat – they witnessed six very interesting and attractive matches which were played in the spirit of fair play with 38 goals scored. All the games were streamed live on the Bulgarian Football Union`s Official channel in YouTube - BFU TV.


The team of Albania won the mini-tournament and qualified for the Main round after achieving three consecutive wins. Erind Resuli`s team finished first in the Group with 9 points after beating Bulgaria (7:1), England (5:1) and Malta (3:2). England finished second with 6 points, followed by Bulgaria 3 and Malta 0 points.
