Borislav Mihaylov was appointed as a member of FIFA`s Development Committee

BFU president Borislav Mihaylov became the first Bulgarian who is a member of the structure of the World Football Federation (FIFA). He was appointed as a member of one of the most prestigious committees to FIFA – the Development Committee.

Borislav Mihaylov, who is a member of UEFA`s Executive Committee, is Europe`s representative in the Committee, which consists of 17 members. Its chairman is Bahrain`s Sheikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa.

"I am very satisfied because there were many candidates, including from Europe. To find ourselves in this Committee, we were all subjected to very strict inspection by the authorities of FIFA. My appointment as a member of the Committee is a huge recognition for my work so far in UEFA and for Bulgarian football as a whole, "said Mihaylov.

The Committee shall deal with FIFA’s global development programmes. It shall devise and propose appropriate strategies, check these strategies and analyse the support and programmes provided to member associations and confederations in this regard. The Development Committee shall in particular analyse the major development challenges at stake, advise and assist the Council on FIFA’s member associations and development 44 programmes, propose new development activities and address the related budget matters, draw up guidelines and regulations on development programmes, approve the thematic focus, types of activity and budget allocation per continent and/or per member association, and instruct the administration on the execution of the Development Committee’s decisions.

In accordance with the reform package approved by the Extraordinary FIFA Congress in February 2016, the standing committees have been reduced from 26 to the following nine: Governance Committee, Finance Committee, Development Committee, Organising Committee for FIFA Competitions, Football Stakeholders Committee, Member Associations Committee, Players’ Status Committee, Referees Committee, and Medical Committee.

Standing committee members who are only 60 worldwide have a term of office of four years and have passed a compulsory eligibility check carried out by the Review Committee, with the exception of the Governance Committee members whose eligibility was checked by the investigatory chamber of the independent Ethics Committee.
