Bulgaria U21 will take part in Toulon Tournament

The Bulgarian Under-21 national team will participate in the 44th edition of the International Toulon Tournament which will take place in France between May 18-29.

Antoni Zdravkov`s team is in Group A, alongside France, Czech Republic, Mexico and Mali. In the other Group B are the teams of Portugal, Japan, England, Paraguay and Guinea.

The prestigious tournament consists of national teams from around the world which are invited by the organizers.

Bulgaria has won two titles in 1976 and 1986 and has reached the final three times (1977, 1987, 1989).

Radoslav Zdravkov, Luboslav Penev and Petar Mihtarski have won the Top Goalscorer Award in 1976, 1987 and 1989 respectively. Manolov (1976) and Kalaydzhiev (1989) have won the Player of the Tournament award. Manolkov has won the Best Goalkeeper Award twice in a row in 1976 and 1977.

France has won the most titles in the prestigious tournament, winning twelve times. Brazil and England are among the most successful teams in the history of the Tournament, having won 8 and 4 titles respectively.

The Bulgarian referee Nikola Popov and his assistants and fellow countrymen Veselin Mishev and Georgi Todorov are among the officials who have been selected to take charge of the games.

Bulgaria opens against France (May 20), followed by Czech Republic (May 22), Mexico (May 24) and Mali ( May 26).
