The „А“ national team of Bulgaria won 1:0 in a friendly game against Portugal, which was held in „Dr. Magalhães Pessoa“ stadium in Leiria.
Bulgarian goalkeeper Stoyanov made three good early saves to repel Portuguese attacks - twice from Cristiano Ronaldo and once from Nani.
Marcelinho gave Bulgaria the lead in the 19th minute, marking his debut for the "А" national team in a special way. The striker wriggled free of the attentions of Pepe and squeezed the ball home past the host goalkeeper Lopes, after an excellent pass from Ivelin Popov.
Stoyanov made a further stop from Ronaldo to keep his team in front at half-time and continued his good performance after the break.
In the 66th minute, Portugal were awarded a spot-kick by referee Carlos Clos Gomez, who adjudged Nikolay Bodurov to have handled Pepe's cross, and home captain Ronaldo stepped up to take the penalty, but only to be denied with a save from Stoyanov .
The Bulgarian goalkeeper completed his excellent performance by making a stop to turn away a close-range header by Portugal captain Ronaldo with five minutes left.
On Tuesday 29-th of March in Skopje, Bulgaria will face Macedonia on another friendly game.
