Trifon Ivanov has passed away

Bulgarian Football Union announces with sadness that one of the greatest Bulgarian players Trifon Ivanov has passed away this morning at the age of 50. 
In recent years, Ivanov was a Chairman of the zonal council of BFU in Veliko Tarnovo, where he won the hearts of the people in his hometown and the region with dedicated work for the development of football.
Trifon Ivanov will remain in the history of Bulgarian football as one of the best defenders – Football player of Bulgaria for 1996, three times National champion with CSKA Sofia, winner of the Austrian championships with “Rapid” Vienna in 1996.  He has 77 matches and 6 goals scored for the Bulgarian National team. Winner of a bronze medal from the World Cup in USA in 1994. 
One of the memorable moments of his career was the match against Russia played on 10th of September 1997, when with the goal scored by him at the National stadium “Vasil Levski”, Bulgaria qualified for the World Cup in France 1998. 

Before being a great player, Trifon was a great man with great heart and was always ready to help. We all mourn the loss of a true friend. Rest in peace, Trifon!
