Bulgaria U21 beat Romania U21 with 2:0 on the road to Euro 2017

The Bulgarian under-21 national team beat Romania with 2:0 as a guest in preliminary group 5 for the 2017 European Championship. The game in Targu Mures at “Trans-Sil” stadium was equivalent in the first 15 minutes. Then in the 16th minute the Bulgarians opened the score. Alexander Vasilev made a fine cross from the left side in the penalty area and Georgi Minchev netted the ball with a header. After the goal Antoni Zdravkov`s players had superior ball possession and controlled the game. They created another two good goal scoring opportunities before the end of the first half. Firstly Milen Gamakov tried a long shot, but the ball went centimeters from the left post. In the 34th minute Borislav Tsonev shot from close range but a Romanian defender cleared the ball in front of the goal line.  

In the first minutes of the second half Kitanov saved Paun`s shot from a free kick. 60 seconds later Tabacariu commited a foul against Vutov and recived a red card. After that situation the Bulgarians dominated totally on the pitch and came close to score another goal, but the Romanian goalkeeper Cojucaro saved Radoslav Tsonev and Georg Iliev`s shots.

In the 75th minute Nikola Kolev substituted Antonio Vutov. In the final minutes of the game Litex`s midfielder materialized the team`s efforts with a shot from 20 meters for the final score 2:0.

“I am pleased by the win. I would like to congratulate all my players. They did all that is necessary. We won against a very strong team. It`s save to say that our team played better than the opponent. We were more responsible, we played better with the ball, we moved more efficiently and we won most of the challenges. We had a chance to score another goal in the first half. After the red card we dominated totally on the pitch. Our team played a very good match, this is what I want to see during the 90 minutes in every game. The team should perform better and better or to keep this level which we showed today in the rest of the games ahead of us.”

In the other match in group 5 - Wells won as a guest to Luxembourg with 3:1.

Wells is the leader in the group with 6 points, Romania and Bulgaria have 3 points after 2 games. The teams of Denmark (without a match), Luxembourg and Armenia (after one game) are without a point.
