December 3rd marks the International Day of People with Disabilities. On this occasion the Special Olympics Bulgaria and the "Pro Sport" foundation have organized an international conference "Access to sport - sport as a tool for social inclusion." The event took place at the Museum of Sports at the National Stadium "Vasil Levski". The purpose of the conference was to initiate a discussion on the role of sport as an instrument of social integration and to present valuable practices. The conference included an official ceremony at which special awards were given. "ProSport'2014" Development of volunteerism in support of sport for people with disabilities honoured several people and organizations in the following categories: civil organization, school, university, sport federation, sport club, state institution, corporate partner, volunteer and community.
BFU received the award in the category "Sports Federation" for joint projects under the "grassroots", realizing the "Let's play together" project including joint regional football tournaments and dodgeball for children with and without intellectual disabilities. BFU was represented by the Executive Director Borislav Popov and "grassroots" Manager Borislav Alexandrov.
Social commitment of the BFU is not limited to the "Let's play together" program and includes other projects under the "grassroots" as extracurricular training and training in football for children from second and third grade in cooperation with Sofia Municipality, project for homes that accommodate children deprived of parental care, "grassroots" tournament "Sofia Cup" for children from the third and fourth grade, and preparation of trainers in mass football schools and homes that are part of the program.
